The eleventh edition of Alpitec China, International trade show for mountain and winter technologies, recently closed its doors in Beijing. From 16 to 19 January 2019, Alpitec China together with ISPO Beijing was once again the meeting place for the winter sports industry of the entire Asia-Pacific region. South Tyrolean market leaders Technoalpin and Leitner with Prinoth and Demaclenko took part in the Chinese adventure as exhibitors.
Bolzano, 31 January 2019 - For four days, 67 exhibitors and brands from 12 countries presented the entire product range of winter technologies at the new location, China International Exhibition Center in Beijing over an area of 4,500 square meters: cableway systems and snow-making systems, slope preparation machines, snowmobiles, equipment for ski rental and safety, ticket and certification systems, ski resort planning, resort design and investment advice. The eleventh edition confirmed the position of the trade show as leading platform for mountain and winter technologies in the Asia-Pacific region: Alpitec China together with ISPO Beijing recorded again 30,000 visitors.
"We already jumped on the bandwagon of the growing Chinese winter sports industry in 2009 and now see ourselves confirmed in this decision. The entire market has been boosted by the bid to host the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. And the development continues beyond the Olympic Games, albeit perhaps not quite as rapidly: "There are some new ski resorts and the expansion of existing ski resorts in the planning stage," underlines Thomas Mur, Director of Messe Bozen. "We just visited some of them during the Ski Resort Tour organised by ISPO Beijing and were able to get a direct impression ourselves".
The accompanying information programme at Alpitec China was particularly attractive for trade visitors. The Asia Pacific Snow Conference APSC, which is traditionally organized together with ISPO Beijing, was again well attended with 350 participants. One highlight of the APSC 2019 was the presentation of the "White Book 2018" by Wu Bin - the only publication that analyses the status quo of the Chinese winter sports industry. The figures illustrate a continuous, now rather linear than exponential growth compared to previous years: 14 new ropeways were put into operation, which corresponds to a growth of almost 6% to 250 ropeways. According to Wu Bin, the largest increase was in the number of ski lifts with +12.5% to 54 lifts and the number of snow cannons with +12.27% to 7,140.
The second edition of the APSC Technical Workshop offered trade visitors valuable know-how on specific technical aspects of ski resort operation: the speakers gave tips on how to prepare a slope for night skiing and illuminate it, which snow groomer is suitable for which slope or how to set up a safety concept for major ski events.
The exhibitors at Alpitec China 2019 came from China, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Finland, Chile, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States. The Chilean snowpark planner Longride Snowparks took part for the first time. CEO Miguel Brzovic Cordero sees Alpitec China as a stepping stone into the Chinese market: "We are very satisfied with the quality and quantity of the contacts made. There was so much interest in our company that we are now looking for a Chinese partner to develop a business model for China".
Among the exhibitors were again some South Tyrolean companies: Leitner with Prinoth and Demaclenko (both present since the first edition in 2009) and Technoalpin (exhibitor since 2010) took the opportunity to present themselves to the Asia-Pacific market at Alpitec China 2019. John Calverley and Andreas Muigg from Prinoth were also speakers at the APSC Technical Workshop.
The South Tyrolean exhibitors were satisfied with their participation in Alpitec China 2019 and for the most part also with the new location, which is further away from the city centre but close to the airport.
For Michael Mayr, Sales Area Manager at Technoalpin, Alpitec China has been the ideal opportunity to meet customers in the region for years. "We were also very satisfied this year with the supporting events accompanying the trade show; high-ranking representatives of the ski industry were present at the Asia Pacific Snow Conference Dinner, for example.”
For Erika Brunello, Key Account Manager China at Demaclenko, it is still a must to be present at Alpitec China. "A big compliment to Fiera Bolzano for the smooth and efficient organisation in a not always easy environment". Brunello is pleased that next year Alpitec China will no longer take place before but after the Chinese New Year and thus after the winter sports high season, which is very short compared to Europe: From 12-15 February 2020, the industry will meet again at Alpitec China in the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing.
From January 16th to 19th, Alpitec China showcases the complete range of mountain and winter technologies in Beijing’s brand new China International Exhibition Center (CIEC New Venue). The annual Asia Pacific Snow Conference and the second edition of APSC Technical Workshop complete the exhibition offering by giving detailed technical insights. As always, Alpitec China is taking place together with ISPO Beijing, the leading multi-segment sports exhibition in Asia.
Beijing, 16 January 2019 – The eleventh edition of Alpitec China offers its international trade visitors both something new and something well-tried and proven: New is the venue, the prestigious new China International Exhibition Center CIEC - but proven is the character of the international trade show as a meeting place for the winter sports industry. "With Alpitec China, we have been accompanying China's rapid development in winter sports since 2009, and for the 11th edition we bring again all the international key players in mountain and winter technologies to Beijing," emphasizes Thomas Mur, Director of the Fiera Bolzano Exhibition Center. "Together with our partner ISPO Beijing, we have built up a unique format here in recent years: In addition to an overview of the most innovative products in the winter sports industry, our information program offers valuable technical know-how and important background information for winter sports industry professionals".
Alpitec China and ISPO Beijing: winter sports market at 360 degrees
In Hall E3 of the new China International Exhibition Center, ski resort managers and decision makers will be able to find everything they are looking for: from ropeway systems, snowmakers, snow grooming machines, snow mobiles, ski rental and safety equipment, ticketing and admission systems to ski resort planning and real estate investment consulting. This year's exhibitors come from 12 different countries, among them the most important key players in the international winter technologies market. The exhibition offering of Alpitec China is completed by ISPO Beijing, focusing especially on winter sports equipment, fashion and accessories, which results in a 360 degrees overview for the Asian winter sports sector.
Industry insights: Asia Pacific Snow Conference and APSC Technical Workshop
In addition to the actual trade fair where winter sports professionals can see, touch and thus understand and value the market’s latest innovations, Alpitec China’s information program is getting more and more important as it provides both inspiration and networking opportunities.
The Asia Pacific Snow Conference is an absolute highlight for operators of ski resorts and the entire winter sports industry. On 17 January 2019, international speakers will take a close look at the most recent developments in international winter sports: The latest data from the "White Book 2018", the only data collection that analyses the ski industry in China, is eagerly awaited. Afterwards, the focus will be on the most important international ski resorts. Several case studies of indoor and outdoor ski resorts as well as of "crossover communities", combinations of winter sports with other sports, provide the necessary practical relevance.
Since technical and safety aspects are gaining in importance as Chinese winter sports destinations are acting more and more professionally, Alpitec China launched the APSC Technical Workshop for the first time last year. The second edition of the APSC Technical Workshop on 18 January 2019 builds on this success: The morning will be devoted to various aspects of safety, with expert presentations on slope monitoring and staff training, lift evacuation, lighting systems for night skiing and safety planning for ski events. In the afternoon, the presentations on snow depth measurement systems, sustainable slope preparation and the selection of the appropriate snow groomer for China will shed light on various factors of slope preparation.
Participation in the Asia Pacific Snow Conference and the APSC technical workshop is free of charge.
