For hundreds of years, the Bolzano Fruit Market has been a meeting point for locals as well as tourists from all over the world. Every day, more than forty market stands offer fresh fruits, vegetables, cheeses, bread and other local specialties. The market has a unique atmosphere, inviting its visitors to stroll among the stalls to taste the freshness, ease and originality of the goods offered.

Castle Roncolo
South Tyrol is the land of castles and ancient ruins. And the city of Bolzano is home to some of the most beautiful castles in the entire province. Runkelstein Castle looks like a fairy tale castle lying on a rock at the entrance to the Sarentino Valley. It hosts the most substantial secular fresco cycle from the Middle Ages, depicting legends and myths of knights, life in court, hunts, and scenes from literature. The castle is easily accessible, and after a brief walk you can enjoy a stunning view of Bolzano. There is also a restaurant available where excellent food and cool drinks are served.

South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology
More than 5,000 years ago, a hunter who had scaled the Schnalstal Glacier died in the icy heights. In 1991, his body was accidentally discovered by a German couple. He was fully dressed and mummified. This finding was an archaeological sensation, and experts from all over the world have been examining the mummy for many years. Since March 1998, the Iceman can be visited at the South Tyrol Museum of Archeology.

Messner Mountain Museum - »The enchanted mountain«
The heart of the museums, "MMM Firmian" in the Firmian Castle close to Bolzano, is called "the enchanted mountain" by Reinhold Messner. Among the ancient walls of Firmian Castle, accessible by a modern glass and steel structure, Reinhold Messner explains the importance of the mountain for everybody of us. He shows us the varieties of religions coming from above; he shows us the history of the whole Alpine region and the corrosion of the mountains; he exhibits pictures of the highest tops in the world and of the "Gods dancing floor", mysterious Himalayan and African figures. The man is able to enchant the mountain and this is what one can feel by visiting the Messner Mountain Museum Firmian.
